DeltaWare’s Medigent Drug Information System (DIS) Launched
Monday, March 17, 2008

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – DeltaWare’s Medigent Drug Information System (DIS) officially went live today in Prince Edward Island. After several years of research, work and negotiations, the Provincial Government’s “All Drugs All People” program was officially launched.  This marks the launch of Canada’s first province-wide DIS compliant with the new pan-Canadian message standards.  This morning the Friendly Pharmacy in Charlottetown came online with its software vendor, Kroll Computer Systems Inc., using the Medigent DIS.

This is the first of all pharmacies on Prince Edward Island that will be continuing to go online in the near future.  As Peter Lawlor, Manager of Pharmacy and DIS Services explains, “this implementation will create complete medication profiles for all Islanders by gathering and securely storing this information in the system.”  The DIS electronically links all health care sites, including pharmacies, physicians’ offices, emergency rooms, and other healthcare facilities.

The Medigent DIS was designed by DeltaWare in accordance with Canada Health Infoway’s Generation 3 DIS guidelines and is the first of its kind in Canada due to the adoption of the new Pan-Canadian messaging standards based on HL7 v3.
