DeltaWare Supports One Laptop per Child Initiative
Friday, November 23, 2007

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – Employees of DeltaWare Systems have chosen to generously make a donation to the One Laptop Per Child foundation (OLPC) and have participated in the Give One Get One program. “This is a worthwhile cause that will improve education around the world through the use of innovative technology, “said Ricardo Angel, a senior project manager at DeltaWare who volunteers with OLPC.

OLPC is a new non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a means for learning, self-expression, and exploration to the nearly two billion children of the developing world who have little or no access to education. Donations are used to purchase XO laptops that are durable, waterproof and can be powered by solar or pull-string chargers. Each laptop is a full-time wireless router, so children, even in the most remote regions, as well as their teachers and families, are able to connect to one another and to the Internet. As part of the Give One Get One program, through DeltaWare’s donation, the company has also received an XO laptop that will be donated to a deserving child, shelter, or school within DeltaWare’s community.

The donation was made through DeltaWare’s Staff Fund Committee, and matched by the company. “This is a worthwhile cause that will improve education around the world through the use of innovative technology,” said John Donahoe, Network consultant and member of DeltaWare’s Staff Fund Committee, “our contribution sends these laptops to developing countries and also provides laptops that will find deserving recipients within our own community.”
